INFUSION is co-led by Bhavani Shankar and Suneetha Kadiyala.
Alongside the two Co-principal investigators are four separate, India-based, project partners: MicroSave Consulting, The Indian School of Business, ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, and ICAR-National Institute of Economics and Policy Research.
The team includes a range of expertise, including economics and market dynamics, nutrition and child development, food and nutrition security, as well specialists in developing research methodologies such as randomised-controlled trials, GIS analyses and system dynamics modelling.
Bhavani Shankar

I am Professorial Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Food and the Department of Geography at The University of Sheffield. I am an applied economist working on research areas at the interface of agriculture, food, nutrition and sustainability. I am particularly interested in equity in food systems and in interdisciplinarity. I co-lead INFUSION along with Suneetha Kadiyala.
Suneetha Kadiyala
Professor of Global Nutrition, The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
I am a nutritionist working towards addressing structural determinants of food and nutrition security in low and middle-income countries. My current work includes the design and evaluation of complex nutrition-sensitive agriculture programmes; and the development of methods and metrics to study multisectoral approaches to improve nutrition outcomes. I co-lead INFUSION along with Bhavani Shankar.
Gregory Cooper

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Geography and Institute for Sustainable Food at The University of Sheffield. My research cuts across the major themes of developing agri-food systems, environmental sustainability and social-ecological resilience. I am a Co-Investigator on the INFUSION project.

Anjali Purushotham

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher Associate in the Department of Geography at the University of Sheffield, working towards understanding the complexities of malnutrition in low- and middle-income countries. My research follows an inter-disciplinary approach to disentangle the pathways linking food systems transformation, nutrition transition, and public health. Within INFUSION, I engage in both workstreams one and two in understanding how food systems can be transformed to improve the availability and accessibility of nutritious food amongst poor communities in India.

I am a Research Assistant on INFUSION and the IMMANA programme based at LSHTM, with a background in nutrition and global health. For the past four years, I have worked on nutrition-intervention research in India with a focus on intersectional inequalities in access, utilisation, and the benefits of such interventions.
Aakriti Gupta

I am a Research Fellow on the INFUSION project at LSHTM. I have worked extensively at the grassroots level for more than eight years on various national level clinical and implementation research projects of anemia, micronutrient deficiencies, malnutrition among women and children, and HIV/AIDS. I have previously worked as a policy maker at NITI Aayog, premier policy think tank of Government of India to improve the nutrition and health outcomes in the Indian population by developing new strategies and providing technical support to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Women and Child Development in program implementation.
I aspire to continue my efforts in the field of implementation research, focusing on crafting strategies to tackle India’s complex health and nutrition challenges.

My research interests are in evaluations of nutrition-related public health interventions and generating evidence for informed health decisions. My role in the INFUSION project is dietary intake data collection, qualitative studies for cost estimation and secondary data analysis.

I have made significant contributions to the management of various research studies over the past 18 years and have co-authored more than 20 publications covering diverse topics such as cardiovascular disease, consumer-food environment, population health, elderly health, urbanisation and migration.
